Turkey has released a circulating commemorative coin that depicts one of the nation’s founding fathers in a way that if you believe what has been posted on social media is true even his mother might not recognize him. The uproar is over a 2023 5-lira coin on which modern Turkey’s founder Mustafa Kemal Atatürk is depicted. Born as Mustafa Kemal Pasha, then changing his name to Ghazi Mustafa Kemal between 1921 and 1934 due to the Surname Law, Atatürk was a field marshal, statesman, author, and founder of the Republic of Turkey.
