Coins have long been known to be a great vehicle on which to present political propaganda. Even in ancient times, Philip II of Macedon, Alexander “the Great’s” father, issued a gold coin on which his favorite horse appeared. Incidentally, the horse was an award winner at the Olympics.
Bank notes, too, are a great vehicle on which to display propaganda. Many a dictator has ensured his vignette appears on notes. Ditto for monarchs. More recently, several African nations have been displaying major public works projects on their bank notes and coins. These projects were all funded by The People’s Republic of China.
