Q The heating has dried out my skin – how can I repair it?
A When the humidity drops, fine lines and wrinkles become more noticeable, and dry, itchy skin flakes and cracks. Baths and showers remove natural oils, so keep them brief and close the bathroom door. Use warm water with a small amount of gentle, fragrance-free cleanser. Blot skin dry with a towel then slather on moisturisers to trap moisture. Ointments and creams are more effective than lotions, especially those with natural oil ingredients such as jojoba or shea, glycerine, hyaluronic acid or petroleum jelly. Avoid products containing alcohol, fragrance or retinoids. Wear gloves if outdoors and household gloves if doing chores that involve getting hands wet or using chemicals.
