Zoe’s grandmother was kind, and she wasn’t going to ignore a cry for help

How long do you think you spend on screens?’ Zoe stood in the doorway and looked at the back of her grandmother’s head. ‘Screens? Hardly any time,’ Granny Coleen said, not turning round. It was nonsense, of course. Zoe knew that her grandmother checked her emails several times a day and used several social media platforms. She ordered things online constantly, and liked videos of the wildlife spotted in people’s gardens. ‘Rubbish,’ Zoe said. ‘Are you coming to the coffee shop?’ ‘That’s on Thursdays,’ Coleen replied, tapping madly at the keyboard. ‘It is Thursday.’ ‘Oh.’ Coleen slid the swivel chair round. ‘You may be right.’ Zoe laughed. ‘Get your coat.’ ‘I’ve just got a few emails to shoot off.’ The few emails took 20 minutes.
