Mu-um! Where are my tights?’ ‘Mu-um! Did you iron my blue top?’ ‘Mu-um! There’s no toothpaste left!’ Charlotte sighed and zipped up the last packed lunch bag ready for school. Listening to the usual bellowed demands from above, it was a morning like every other. Only, there was an empty, hollow feeling in the pit of her stomach that she couldn’t shift. She placed the bags by the front door, lined up next to the rucksacks and her middle daughter’s PE kit. Then she called upstairs… ‘Thea, your tights are where they always are – top drawer.
