Lately, a new trend has been taking over bedrooms around New Zealand. Once a cause for concern, the “sleep divorce” is becoming normalised and some couples swear it’s made their relationship stronger. Sleep coach Rachel Beard explains, “It’s often expected that couples sleep together, but since everyone has different sleep habits, this isn’t always what’s best for supporting a good night’s rest.” As we learn more about the impact that sleep has on our wellbeing, Rachel says it makes sense that more couples are prioritising a night of quality, restful slumber. “Sleep informs our physical and our mental performance, recovery, mood, memory, hunger levels and more,” she explains.
