Regionality is ever-present when it comes to wine, yet nowhere is it felt more acutely than in Italy, where culinary and wine styles take twists and turns around every part of the boot and its islands. During a recent trip to Verona for the annual Vinitaly International exhibition, I was welcomed back to the incredible sense of place that seems imbued in everything the Italians do—from the bites served alongside spritzes during aperitivo, to the culinary adventures of every morsel of each meal and, of course, to the wine in your glass. Italians use taste as a love letter to locality. Lingering over a meal in Verona, I was shocked by the number of Veronese dishes I had never seen before.
