A I've made good friends and it's a wonderful show. Everyone is fantastic.
Q Did anything take you by surprise when you started?
A Some of the prosthetics feel as though they're real, but, fortunately, I'm not squeamish. And the set is extraordinary. It really feels like you're in a hospital - it even smells like a hospital!
Q Flynn is an experienced military medic. How did you prepare for the role?
A I spoke with some actively serving special-forces members and I did some physical training. Flynn is from a world that's very gritty and dark, and I wanted to honour that on screen.
Q What's going on in his life when we first meet him?
A He's due to go on a fresh tour of duty, so he's battle-ready and in a space of compartmentalisation, which affects his personal relationships with his wife, Claire, his two daughters, and his father-in-law, surgeon Russell Whitelaw [played by Robert Bathurst].
