If you want to blow your mind, try contemplating how many grains of sand there are on Earth, or how many stars there are in the universe. If you want to go a step further, try deciding whether there are more grains or stars. If you want the answer, science may have it for you. To calculate the grains of sand on Earth, researchers first measured the average size of a grain of sand then calculated how many grains it would take to fill a vessel such as a two-litre jug.
