Kan jy nog onthou watter items jy inderhaas in daardie dae voor die Covid-19-grendeltyd aangekoop het? Wyn? Sjokolade? Toiletpapier? Ek het meelwurms loop koop – houers en houers vol wriemelende kewerlarwes. Siende ek nie meer sou kon rondry om voëls te kyk nie, het ek besluit om die voëls na my toe te lok! Oor ’n tydperk van drie weke het ek geleidelik die vertroue van ’n paar gewone janfrederike gewen wat hier saam met ons by no. 1114 woon. Elke keer as ek meelwurms uitgegooi het, het ek ook met die tong so ’n klapklankie gemaak: tsk-tsk! Mettertyd het hulle dié geluid met kos geassosieer en besef dat ek hulle geen leed wil aandoen nie. Naderhand sou hulle op my hand kom land, of sommer by die deur inhop…
