Besoek die Bokkeveld se blomdorp

Van Maart tot Oktober blom hier interessante dinge op Nieuwoudtville – van die kokerboom se geel blomme tot rooikatsterte! En die res van die jaar is hier hope stilte, sterre en stories.

DEUR EVAN NAUDÉ

Net ná die Vanrhynspas, bo-op die Bokkeveldplato, sny die R27 ’n lyn binneland toe, na Calvinia en die Groot-Karoo. Maar slaan eers ’n bietjie remme aan voor die ooptes jou intrek – jy wil nie Nieuwoudtville misry nie. Jy kan dié dorpie se strate op jou vingers en een voet se tone tel. Dis ’n spikkeldorpie, maar met ’n groot reputasie as een van die beste plekke in die wêreld om skouspelagtige veldblomme, veral bolplantspesies, in die lente te sien. Maar dis ’n Sondagmiddag in Februarie wanneer ek die dorpie binnery. Dit lyk soos ’n verlate filmstel waar al die akteurs reeds huis toe is vir die dag. Ek ry uit na my oornagplek op die Papkuilsfontein-gasteplaas. Later brand ’n vuurtjie in die kaggel en ek leun oor die kombuis…
