Stel jou alarm vir 18 September In die oggendure van 18 September kan die hele Suid-Afrika sowel as Namibië ’n gedeeltelike maansverduistering aanskou. ’n Mens is geneig om te dink verduisterings is skaars, maar wêreldwyd kan daar tot sewe (van die son en maan) in ’n jaar plaasvind. Vanjaar is daar slegs vier sulke geleenthede – twee sonsverduisterings (op 8 April en 2 Oktober) en twee maansverduisterings (op 25 Maart en 18 September). En slegs laasgenoemde is ten dele hier van ons af sigbaar. ’n Maansverduistering gebeur slegs met volmaan, wanneer die son, aarde en maan presies in lyn met mekaar is sodat die maan deur die aarde se skaduwee beweeg.
