There is no obligation to melee into or out of a town square: this replicates the defenders’ advantage of waiting in prepared positions for an attack, not sallying out into the open and putting themselves at a disadvantage. It also allows an attacker to pick their best moment to attack. A defender can only be attacked once per turn.
Total the number of troops attacking and defending against a town square, working out the odds as as a ratio to attacker and defender, as applicable. Roll on the chart shown at right; ratios which should always be rounded in the defenders’ favour.
