PAINTING EPIC-SCALE SEVENTEENTH-CENTURY CAVALRY BY CANNON AND BLADE

Painting smaller scales can be tricky: to make them look good sometimes requires more work than a 28mm figure. The advent of contrast and speed paints has made smaller models easier: with a little practice, you can produce results which will look great on the tabletop.

This is a follow-up article from to my previous one on infantry in WS&S 128. In this article, I will explore how you can get excellent results for cavalry of the period using Citadel Contrast Paints. While I have used Warlord Games' Epic Pike and Shotte for this article, the techniques here should be universally applicable for other 15mm miniatures, plus other smaller scales (from 20mm to 6mm). PREPARATION AND UNDERCOATING Mould lines were cleaned with a knife. I then applied Tamiya Extra Thin Cement to melt any smaller ones and to tidy up any of the cuts I had made. Careful use of the brush applicator will smooth out the finish. I then undercoated the figures with a white spray primer from Halfords.
