The latest release for the Perry Ottoman Napoleonic range is Egyptian Fellahin, or peasant soldiers. These irregular soldiers fought against the French invasion and were turned into a professional army by Mohammed Ali Pasha, who defeated the British invasion of Alexandria (1807), destroyed the powerbase of the Mamluks (the Mamluk massacre, 1811), reconquered Arabia (the Wahhabi War, 1811–1812), and conquered the Sudan (1820). Ali Pasha finally declared Egyptian independence (the Egyptian Ottoman War 1931–1933). So, these miniatures have some milage beyond being just Ottoman levies.
