ROCKY TERRAIN FOR YOUR JUNGLE GAMES ON THE ROCKS!

I'm currently in the middle of a big Pacific theatre terrain project, inspired by the promise of the forthcoming Far East supplement by TooFatLardies. I've made fifteen square feet of jungle forest, metres of banana plantations, and dozens of bamboo groves. When I was looking through photographs of the combat in places such as the Solomon Islands, I realized I was missing something – rocky outcrops! How could I make some effective fake rocks?

Some of you may be wondering, why not just use real rocks? The biggest issue is the weight. A few years ago I made the mistake of using real stone and the resulting pieces were too unwieldy. The other concern when using real rocks is that they often don't look the right scale. They invariably look like small stones rather than the full-size rocky outcrops you're trying to model. To make my new fake-rock outcrops, I used two different approaches. Either works by itself, but as they have different textures, it's good to combine both in the same piece.
