That’s how long it took Romain Dumas to set a new world record in the most impressive manner at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, making a bold statement for electro-mobility. At the wheel of Volkswagen’s fully electric I.D. R Dumas conquered the Peak’s notorious switchbacks and blew the competition off the edge, improving on the 2013 world record set by Sébastien Loeb in a conventional drive AWD car by an astonishing 16.730 seconds. Dumas followed that up by setting a record breaking time for electric vehicles up Goodwood hill of 48.35 seconds. Okay, the sound wasn’t there, but by god the speed was.
