Look at the wheels on any new car and you’ll see hard, not soft edges to the spokes. This is generally knows as diamond cutting, and involves machining part of the wheel on a lathe using diamond-tipped tooling.
The process – often done after the wheel has been painted – leaves a sharp, shiny alloy finish, which is generally contrasted by painted surrounding surfaces. Unless you’re a masochist who wants to clean and polish your wheels daily, you’ll want at least a coat of lacquer to prevent corrosion.
Not as resilient as a full power coated finish, the work can take a few hours and normally adds £25-£30 per wheel to the cost of refurbishing.
