DAY 5 But since we were up, we headed back to the Tavern for a delicious full breakfast and then drove for the longest stretch yet – about an hour – to the foot of The Cheviot, the highest point in Northumberland. The sky was looking ominously cloudy when we got there in the Tangerine Machine, but we started uphill nevertheless, trying our hardest to manifest blue skies as we climbed. Even positive thinking couldn’t help us avoid muddy and wet spongy terrain and – on my part – completely soaked feet. After about an hour of a windy and foggy hike up this extinct volcano, we had to stop and pause for thought.
