WILLYS GASSER If your first forays into air-cooled VW ownership were in the 1980s, I can probably safely predict that you bought a few issues of Custom Car and Street Machine before VolksWorld came along. I’m pretty confident in saying that many of the non-VWs within the pages of those magazines also influenced you in some small way. In fact, talking to Colin James about his Willys-style coupe for this feature sent me spiralling off down memory lane. In the 1980s I used to go to a model shop in my native Leeds city centre that stocked Revell, AMT and Monogram kits of hot rods and American cars.
