An old black and white photograph sets Bob off on a crafting mission

We’re going a bit off piste for VW Toys this month, after I came across an old black and white photograph showing a road sign located in Fallerslaben, Germany, taken during the early 1940s. The sign points to the direction of the Volkswagen Werk factory, located in Stadt des KdF Wagens, about 6km from Fallerslaben. A bit of research reveals that the building in the background of the photo still remains today, but the sign appears to have been removed some time in the early 1950s. Did somebody take it for their personal collection, or was it just an unwelcome reminder of the wartime era?
