No engine overhaul is a cheap procedure so, when you’ve sunk a lot of time, effort and cash into the overhaul of your bottom end, it makes sense to treat your top end to some love, too. Sure, it’s possible, and perfectly acceptable, to hone barrels, de-coke pistons, fit new rings and then have your heads chemically cleaned, fitted with new guides and valves and bolt it all back together again.
