I’ve only been a passenger in three Split Beetles in my life, but each time it was a surreal experience. Surreal in a good way, but also in an ‘I’d have to sell body parts to own this’ way. I guess it all depends on just how much you want something, and how much you are prepared to forego to own it. You see, it’s not just Split Window Beetles themselves that command big bucks these days, but the parts for them are crazy expensive, too. Seriously, you could buy a complete, running late model Beetle for the price of just one part, as I found out at Bad Camberg in 2011 when I spent the weekend with a friend there who was looking for cog logo parts.
