Howard Atkins’ immaculate coupé offers us the opportunity to explain why a C-series 356 could just be the best classic Porsche around

’64 PORSCHE 356C There comes a life-changing moment for many collectors when they have to rationalise their stash, and Howard Atkins, is facing such a cutback. He currently owns four of the marque – a 1959 356B, this Sky Blue ’64 C, a backdated 1983 911 Targa and a 1979 911 SC coupé – and only wants to keep two. Perhaps unbelievably to those who aspire to owning just one classic Porsche, he isn’t particularly bothered which. “I really don’t mind which ones I keep,” he says. “The grey 356, which is the 1959 car, was the very first one we brought back to life.
