Dem de Bruyn hails from a small town called Stekene in the Belgian province of East Flanders, but his sweet ’67 would look right at home on the streets of Orange County, CA

43-year-old Dem is no stranger to the world of classic VWs, having owned his ’72 ’Looker – his first car, incidentally – for more than 22 years. “I built that car from the ground up and made many changes and upgrades over the years, culminating in a well-sorted street car with 200+bhp to play with,” he tells us. While we often talk about ‘further plans’ and refer to VWs as ‘projects’ (meaning modified cars are rarely ever ‘finished’), it’s refreshing to report that Dem is one of the rare few that felt he’d 100% completed that car. Which brings with it another problem – what does one do when one’s car needs nothing? The answer, of course, is to sell it and start all over again. Consequently, Dem moved on…
