On his layouts, Gilbert Gribi composes many cameo scenes featuring off-the-shelf figures. In this article, he tells us about the different phases of the work of a railway miniature figure artist.

TECHNQUE I have a soft spot for the Phoenix and Omen ranges; more than 300 references for Phoenix, more than 150 figures and animals with Omen. Generally speaking, the Phoenix figures are better sculpted than the Omen items. Preiser's range of figures is less accurate; on the other hand, this brand's animals, sheep, goats, poultry, etc, are of excellent quality. Although the figures have clothing of different colours, they do have the drawback of being seen on a large number of layouts. To avoid this, I give them a personal touch by swopping heads.
