*Translator's note: «croisées libérées» refers to «croisées de l’étroit», the latter expression being awkward to translate properly into English, especially as «croisée» can have several meanings in French. The least inaccurate would be something like «narrow gauge crossings». Hence, «croisées libérées» would in turn be something like «liberated crossings».
