Blackpool Mayor proposes second carnival of light

THE POPULAR seaside town of Blackpool is planning to cut its energy consumption this year by having a grand SWITCH OFF of its iconic illuminations – just a couple of hours after they’ve been switched on! The illuminations, a popular fixture along Blackpool’s Golden Mile for almost 150 years, encapsulate the extravagant, colourful charm of the traditional British seaside holiday. However in recent years, money-saving measures have seen the illuminations’ traditional filament lightbulbs replaced with more cost-effective LED equivalents.
