IN 2022, a couple of friends and I went on a road trip to Normandy in order to take in the sites and stories which unfolded back in June 1944. It’s a long way from Lancashire to Normandy, so one of the rules of the trip was that we could each nominate one fart for which the other car passengers could not wind down the windows or use items of clothing to cover their nose, and that fart had to be nominated pre-release. The jeopardy was magnificent.
