Rain set to oust snow as new seasonal favourite.

AFTER years of ‘no snow’ disappointment at Christmas, the Met Office are asking the British public to get behind a forward-thinking campaign to make rain the official weather of the festive period. For centuries, Christmas and snow have been a classic festive pairing. From Christmas cards of red-breasted robins sat on snow-capped branches to parks full of rosy-cheeked children tobogganing down hills covered in a freshly-fallen blankets of the white stuff, the first flakes of snow were traditionally a sign that Santa was on his way. But a White Christmas – officially declared when a single snowflake falls on the Met Office building in London on Christmas Day – hasn’t occurred in Britain since 2010.
