Frank Lloyd Wright’s Wisconsin studio comes roaring back with the restoration of his concert hall and its fabled handsewn curtain.

“Never miss the idea that architecture and music belong together,” Frank Lloyd Wright said. Like architecture, he contended, music was a language of the human heart, and it so deeply influenced his creativity that he integrated it into his students’ educations. To wit, when Wright started his fellowship program in 1932 at Taliesin, his southwestern Wisconsin home and studio, he turned the gymnasium of his aunts’ former boarding school into a playhouse, modifying it in 1952 after a fire to its present form. His Hillside Theater hosted musical performances and movies for Wright’s apprentices and neighbors, becoming a cultural destination for the local community.
