Jessie se ma, Gwen Fagan, het ’n leeftyd se tuinkennis. Sy verklap ’n paar geheime aan ons tuinredakteur, Marié Esterhuyse.

Toe ek vir Gwen Fagan bel om te gesels, is sy by die werk – op 95 steeds op haar pos in die kantoor van haar man, Gawie Fagan, se argiteksfirma. Hier werk sy al meer as 50 jaar lank. Gwen het in 1949 as mediese dokter gekwalifiseer, maar haar liefde vir landskapwerk en plante het oor jare haar beroep én lewe geword. Sy vertel meer oor haarself en haar reis met rose ... Waar het jy grootgeword? As klein dogtertjie het ek op die plaas Klipvlei in die Moorreesburg-distrik by my oom Gielie-hulle gewoon. My ma het sanglesse in Stellenbosch gegee. Hul plaaswerf was nie net ons speelplek nie, maar my hele lewe. Die kinders op die plaas was my speelmaatjies en hulle het by my ’n liefde vir die aarde…
