Becoming Ophelia

How times change. As a child with an urge to crossdress I thought myself alone with a weird disorder. Now as I endeavour to write and share my story I’m conscious of not wanting to bore potential readers of this magazine with an all too familiar tale!

For me, life took an unexpected turn just over five years ago on an average spring weekday morning, my wife Alex sitting at our dining table working at a computer. The usual domestic rhythm was shattered by a cry of “What’s this?!” Unaware of the impending issue, it was only when I saw the screen I realised the nature of what was coming, and the potential impact it would have on our lives. The screen pictured an email I had sent to a separate personal account and included a selfie I had taken of myself sitting in our garden wearing just a basque.
