If your only requirement for mountain trousers is that they cover your legs, you'll be amazed at the difference finding the right pair could make to your comfort levels.

1 FINDING THE RIGHT FABRIC Unlike denim jeans or cotton joggers, hillwalking trousers are made from quick-drying performance fabrics to provide durability, breathability, weather-resistance and comfort. Most are made from tightly-woven nylon or polyester soft shell, often with elastane for stretch. They usually have a durable water repellent (DWR) treatment for added water-resistance. Other outdoor trousers are made from polycotton, which can often be waxed for additional weather protection. 2 CUT, COMFORT & FIT You'll spend a lot of time and cover a lot of miles in your trousers, so comfort is key. You need a pair that feel good when you first put them on, and also while you're moving around on steep and rocky terrain.
