This south-to-north backpacking route links both train stations in a 50km route with two wild camps and seven Wainwrights, creating a sustainable weekend adventure by public transport. Day one starts in Windermere with an ascent of Orrest Head (where a young Alfred Wainwright first set eyes across Lakeland), before linking up with the western section of the famed Kentmere Horseshoe.
