My idea of a nice walk typically lasts less than an hour and has a pub at the end. I rarely diverge from this since I also have no sense of direction and hate being cold. But even I enjoyed the views on this challenging but manageable section of the Oldham Way.
The trails leading to the edge of the moors on this bracing walk are part of a route that normally winds up from the hamlet of Diglea and finishes in Denshaw, but we hopped on from the car park near Castleshaw's reservoirs instead. Spotting a public footpath, we scrambled uphill to inspect the remains of a Roman settlement then joined the bridleway on Bleak Hay.
