The finest alternative to the route described here would be to start at the Glen Vale car park, which provides the tempting option on the way up to take a brief detour to explore John Knox's Pulpit, a small waterfall at the head of a gorge. From there it would make the most sense to do Bishop first, then East Lomond, before ending with West Lomond. Descend from West Lomond – following the gradual path, not one of the steeper routes – to the foot of the hill to explore the fantastic rock structure that is the Bunnet Stane, which includes one shaped like a ‘bunnet’ (a Scots word for a flat capl, and a cave where it is said the spirit of a ‘maiden’ lives who can grant you…
