RED SAILBOATS

The colour red is synonymous with Christmas - apples, holly berries, Saint Nicholas' robes (Santa outfits), red wine and poinsettias. Scatter a selection of ruby fabric scraps over a crisp white background to create this stunning quilt based on a traditional crib quilt design.

You will need • An assortment of red fabrics (Carolyn used sixteen different ones, but you could more or just one solid red) – if using sixteen fabrics ¼yd of each will be plenty • White background fabric 5½yds • Backing fabric about 90in square • Batting about 90in square • Binding fabric 5/8yd Finished size • 82in square approx Notes • Seam allowances are ¼ in throughout. • WOF = width of fabric. • HST = Half-square triangle • Press all fabrics before cutting • Press all seams open. Fabrics used The quilt uses white for the background and a collection of red prints, which makes the quilt a great one for using up scraps.
