The goal of this new project is to provide financial and organizational support to schools in Blue Hill, Brooklin, Brooksville, Castine, Penobscot, Sedgwick, Surry, and Deer Isle-Stonington to maximize their use of gardens and greenhouses for the experience and education of their students.
The Petty Foundation formerly funded the Blue Hill Peninsula Community Food Grant Program, as well as many of the original school greenhouses on the Blue Hill peninsula, according to a press release. This new project is designed to support school staff as they make their gardens vibrant learning spaces that are integrated with their school's unique educational needs.
To initiate the project, Healthy Peninsula has invited applications from all school staff, including administrators, teachers, support staff, and specialists, to hear ideas, challenges, barriers, and plans for school growing spaces.
