Unfortunately for the Eagles, Calais again caught fire, going on a 16-5 run to close the quarter. And while GSA's Colby Eaton and Malcolm Page connected on a pair of threes early in the fourth, Calais was able to fend off the Eagles' rally efforts, and advanced to the quarterfinals with a 69-54 win.
Eaton led the way for the Eagles with 23 points, while fellow sophomore Page chipped in with 15, and senior Isaiah Radel added eight.
Head Coach Dwayne Carter, who guided this young squad to a 12-7 season, had high praise for a group that made it to the postseason despite losing all of its starters from the previous season.
"During the season we proved that we could play with anyone in our class," Carter said. "We played a lot of close games, and even though the season did not end the way we wanted it to, we showed a lot of character and proved you could never count us out. We never quit, battled to the end, and always left everything we had on the court."
While the Eagles lose seniors Isaiah Radel, Tristan Ciomei, Adam Metcalf, Dominic Nevells and Travis Hollamon, a core group of underclassmen who played vital roles this season seem ready to take over the reins and maintain GSA's winning tradition.
