The call came in at 3:47 p.m., and firefighters were on the scene until around 10 p.m., according to Blue Hill Fire Chief John Chapman. Volunteers from the Sedgwick Fire Department were first on the scene, followed by the Blue Hill, Surry, Brooklin, Brooksville and Penobscot fire departments.
Chapman said firefighters from Stonington, Deer Isle and Orland stepped in to provide emergency coverage while the other departments battled the blaze.
"We had fantastic mutual aid response," Chapman said in an interview.
The two-story, 800-square-foot barn at 48 Allen Point Lane was fully engulfed when Sedgwick firefighters arrived. According to Blue Hill tax records, the building is owned by Portlyn Holdings LLC, a real estate holding company with a mailing address in Brooklyn, N.Y. Chapman said the fire was discovered by "someone who was just getting to the house."
