Verstappen and Leclerc go “wheel-to-wheel” in Jeddah

Last weekend’s Saudi Arabian F1 Grand Prix was overshadowed by the terror strike on an oil refinery on Friday, which landed “uncomfortably close” to the Jeddah circuit, said Tom Cary in The Daily Telegraph. But after a lot of hesitation, it was decided the race should go ahead. And it proved a classic. For the second week in succession, last season’s champion, Max Verstappen, went wheel-to-wheel with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in a “fascinating, sea-sawing battle”. In Bahrain, the duel had ended prematurely when the Dutchman’s Red Bull conked out shortly before the chequered flag. This time, both drivers made it to the finish and it was Verstappen who emerged victorious, after passing his rival with four laps to go.
