US meets England in women’s soccer match

On October 7, women’s national soccer teams from the US and England faced off in an exciting exhibition (friendly) match at Wembley Stadium in London, England. The US team (USWNT) is currently number one in the world. England’s team, the Lionesses, are ranked fourth and recently won the European Championship. For the first time in five years, England beat the USWNT, with a final score of 2–1. Nearly 77,000 fans attended the match. There was so much anticipation that when tickets went on sale, the UK’s Football Association website crashed and the match sold out within 24 hours.
