A historic new role

USA Swimming has named Anthony Nesty to lead the US men’s swimming team at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, making him the first Black head swim coach in US Olympic history. Nesty first made history in 1988 when he became the first Black male swimmer to win Olympic gold, competing for Suriname, in the 100-meter butterfly race. As the head swim coach at the University of Florida, he also works with top swimmers Katie Ledecky and Bobby Finke. Nesty said he is excited for his new role and looking forward to next summer.…
