Did you always want to be a writer? Yes, I realized I was a writer in first grade. Why do you like spy stories? I love spy stories because the stakes are high. The characters risk everything for a belief or a place or people they love. Are your characters based on real people? There’s a tiny bit of me in every character I write, even the characters I don’t like very much. Stick is a lot like my mother. What makes historical fiction important? When you have a great story woven into history, it makes history come alive. If you could travel to any time period, what would you choose? I’d like to travel through the Americas before the Europeans came, to see how people lived.…
