Interest strong for midterm elections

Races are heating up as political candidates try to get people to vote for them in the midterm election on November 8. A midterm is the election held halfway through a President’s four-year term. Early voting has begun, and voter interest is high. What is happening? All 435 seats in the House of Representatives (one branch of Congress, which makes laws) are up for election, and 34 out of the 100 seats in the Senate (the other branch of Congress) will be elected. The governor (a state’s top leader) will be voted on in 36 states. In 27 states, the secretary of state will be elected.
