Rock samples could prove life existed on Mars

NASA’s Perseverance rover, which launched from Earth in 2020, is close to achieving its primary mission on Mars. Nicknamed “Percy,” the wheeled robot’s main goal is to find signs of past life on the planet by collecting samples of rock and soil. These will be analyzed by scientists at NASA (the US space agency). Percy landed in the Jezero Crater on Mars in February 2021. Although Mars is now a dry and dusty planet, scientists believe that water flowed on its surface billions of years ago. The harsh conditions there make the existence of life today unlikely. Scientists hope that samples from inside the Jezero Crater, which would have once been a lake, may prove that life had existed there. Percy has been drilling into the ground in the crater…
