Bear Mountain State Park, New York This nature getaway sits in the mountains above the Hudson River. There are miles of hiking trails, including a popular stretch of the Appalachian Trail, which takes hikers up to the peak of Bear Mountain. There are picnic tables under the trees and the large Hessian Lake, where bass and trout swim. Some of the other wildlife in the park includes bald eagles, snapping turtles, deer, otters, and beavers.
