Should middle and high schools have recess?

Some people say all students need a break, but is there enough time in the day?

Many students who entered middle school this year are experiencing their first semester without recess. As children grow into preteens and teens, most US school systems remove this midday period of playtime from the schedule (or replace it with a longer lunch period). This practice follows a common belief that recess is for young children and would be a waste of time for older kids. However, some middle and high schools have experimented with adding periods of unstructured time back into their schedules, saying that it’s better for their school community. What do you think?
