World’s largest coral found

On November 14, scientists announced the discovery of the world’s largest coral—an undersea formation so large that it can be seen from space. It was found during a scientific expedition in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. What happened? A team of scientists from National Geographic was studying the effects of climate change on oceans near the Solomon Islands, an archipelago (string of islands) spanning more than 900 miles northeast of Australia. From the surface, the team spotted what they thought was a shipwreck underwater. A diver discovered that it was a mega coral. They used a measuring tape to determine that it was about 111 feet wide, 104 feet long, and 18 feet high.
